Steve Norton’s presentation to a convening of leaders in long term care and aging policy summit on the implications of aging for the long term care system. New Hampshire’s first ever Health and Equity Report Card reflecting data to measure key health disparities among the state’s racial, ethnic, and linguistic minority populations. Our goal is to provoke questions, illustrate trends and patterns, and generate more interest in collecting and analyzing data to understand health disparities among these groups in order to advance health and equity in New Hampshire. - Hospital Prices, Market Structure and Cost Shifting (06-06-2012)
Our most recent research finds that variation in prices paid by health insurance companies to hospitals in New Hampshire are not explained by differences in the quality of care, the complexity of the population served, payer mix, levels of market competition or the penetration of managed care
The share of a hospital’s revenues that were public was the single best predictor of the level of cost-shifting per private pay discharge
Insurance prices are slightly correlated with cost-shift per private payer. As the amount of cost shifted increases, so does the price of hospital services to insurance companies. - Measuring the Health of the Healthcare System: New Hampshire's Healthcare Dashboard 2012 (03-17-2012)

This dashboard, a new healthcare policy tool, challenges the perception that NH is one of the healthiest states in the nation. Surprisingly, for a state that has been ranked consistently as one of the healthiest states in the nation, the health and well being of the New Hampshire population falls behind the best states, and at a relatively higher cost.
